Energy expert: No rolling blackouts expected, as only two power plants have insufficient coal reserves
Energy expert and collegium member at the Ukrainian State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving Mariia Yakovlieva has stated this on Espreso.TV channel.
“There are only two power plants in Ukraine with coal reserves not enough even for 40 days, but this will not affect the entire energy system. Thus, there will not be rolling blackouts but certain restrictions,” Yakovlieva said.
According to her, coal can be purchased from other countries, when Ukraine runs out of available coal reserves.
“Today we do not need the overall amount required for the heating season. We need a small amount. Thus, we can buy some coal from Poland, as well as Kazakhstan,” Yakovlieva said.
However, she stressed that Ukraine lacks strategic coal reserves expected to make up 30-35% of the amount required for the heating season.
