President Petro Poroshenko has signed a decree on celebrating the Year of Japan in Ukraine in 2017, the president’s press service reported on Wednesday.

The decree was signed during a meeting of President Poroshenko with Japan’s Ambassador to Ukraine Shigeki Sumi.

“The Head of State expressed hope that this year there will be a progress in talks on visa liberalization with Japan and an increase in the number of direct Japanese investments into the Ukrainian economy,” reads a report.

President Poroshenko reminded about successful Japanese investment projects of 2016 that already operate in western Ukraine and create thousands new jobs.

In turn, Ambassador Shigeki Sumi noted the fact that "after Euromaidan a significant number of large Japanese companies started their active economic activities in Ukraine."
