Heating companies, households and public sector have reduced natural gas consumption by 7.2 billion cubic meters over the past two years.

Ukrainian State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving Chairman Sergiy Savchuk has stated this during the 7th European-Ukrainian Energy Day, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“Looking at three categories of consumers, namely heating companies, households and public sector, we can say that these categories saved 7.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas over the past two heating periods,” Savchuk said.

According to him, savings resulted from a decrease in natural gas consumption rates and a new tariff policy that helped people realize they need to reduce gas consumption.

“Both energy efficiency and renewable energy issues are the priorities for the Ukrainian State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving,” Savchuk noted.
