In cooperation with relevant agricultural organizations and the Ukrainian State Service on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, a pilot project funded by the Government of Switzerland will be launched to strengthen phytosanitary control over Ukrainian crops.

Ukrainian Grain Association (UGA) President Volodymyr Klymenko has stated this in an interview with the APK-Inform analytical agency.

“We have decided to launch a pilot project to provide quality control in one or several regions, to create a working group based on the project of the International Finance Corporation. The project is financed by the Government of Switzerland,” Klymenko said.

According to him, this refers mainly to implementing phytosanitary control in fields. The volume of required expenses on phytosanitary operations and fight against diseases and pests will be estimated. In addition, both public and private laboratories will be used to carry out necessary tests.

“Our final goal is to eliminate ergot fungi, smuts, ragweed and any other quarantine agents in Ukraine above the limit,” Klymenko added.
