The Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers has rejected the extension of emergency measures on the power market for another month, as the Energy and Coal Ministry offered.

Energy and Coal Industry Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn told journalists after a government meeting, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“The Cabinet took a decision not to prolong [emergency measures], although I have today submitted a proposal. I’m sure that the taken measures were efficient, half a million tons of coal were saved, according to the Ukrenergo calculations,” Demchyshyn said.

As a reminder, temporary emergency measures on the power market were introduced on December 19, 2015 for the term of one month.

The temporary emergency measures were introduced to tackle the effects of the prolonged disruption of the normal functioning of the electricity market.
