National Sorochyntsi Fair: facts and figures

The action and the trade will take place six days in the open air in the center of the village of Velyki Sorochyntsi, Myrhorod region, a Ukrinform correspondent reports.

Participating in the fair will be up to a million local residents and visitors from near and far abroad, representatives of diplomatic missions, more than 300 journalists of printed and electronic media, etc.

Representing their products in Sorochyntsi will be traditionally the enterprise PJSC Kremenchukmyaso, bakery No. 3 JSC Poltava Bread Combine, Pivdenny Bakery, Myrhorod Mineral Water Plant, Lubny Dairy Plant, heavy industry enterprises, such as JSC Kryukov Wagon Works, Kremenchug Wheel Plant and JSC Kredmash and Slobozhanska Fair Ltd. and MotorSіch. For the first time, the CJSC Horlivka Meat Plant, Art-Prom will participate in the fair (interesting furniture with a print), as well as Svaliava Mineral Water.

The National Sorochyntsi Fair continues to expand its international connections. So, this year, on a visit to Poltava official delegations will come from the village of Gabura (Slovakia) and the town of Comanche (Poland).

Well represented at the fair will be food, beverages, clothing, footwear, fur and leather, textiles, uniforms and accessories, jewelry, tools, agricultural machinery and fertilizers, building materials and construction.

Craftsmen from all over Ukraine will also present their products. 25 workshops of Sorochyntsi Workshop will run for guests and visitors of the event, making dolls, Easter eggs, amulets, a variety of embroideries, traditional jewelry, pottery, etc.

Over 30 cafes and restaurants of Ukrainian, Georgian, Armenian, Azerbaijani, Uzbek and other ethnic cuisines will present healthy and tasty food and provide an opportunity to enjoy a drink from around the world. In turn, the area Yarmarkova smakota (Fair Goodies) will introduce the history and process of making traditional Ukrainian dishes.

During all the days on five stages of the fair arts groups will be performing, in particular, the group "TIK" and Verka Serdiuchka with Mom. Every day, "Nikolai Gogol" and the characters from his works will welcome guests of the fair, and masterpieces of the Ukrainian cinema will be shown on the Hivrya estate from 21.00.

The nearest train station to Velyki Sorochyntsi is Myrhorod. You can reach it by train from Kyiv, Kharkiv and Poltava. From Poltava and Myrhorod a bus will travel to Sorochyntsi at intervals of 15-30 minutes.

For the period of the fair, accommodation is available in Myrhorod hotels and sanatoria. Room for two beds will cost from UAH 500 per night, ethno-houses with all the amenities - UAH 1,000. Tourists are offered the possibility of accommodation in tents (UAH 100-200).

Note. The event, known since the XVIII century, was very vividly depicted in the story of genius of world literature Nikolai Gogol (a cycle of stories "Evenings on a Farm near Dikanka"). Ltd Sorochinskaya Fair organized and held the event since 1999.
