President Poroshenko: Ukraine intends to purchase 55% of nuclear fuel from Westinghouse

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has stated that Ukraine intends to purchase up to 55% of nuclear fuel from the U.S. Westinghouse Electric Company.

The Ukrainian president stated this in an interview with Ukrainian TV Channels, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

“Energy security depends on nuclear energy as well. And here we significantly increase a share of American suppliers of nuclear fuel Westinghouse, I hope that we will be able to increase it up to 55%," the President said.

The head of state also recalled that Ukraine is continuing the construction of a used fuel storage facility.

President Poroshenko also added that it will also make Ukraine independent from Russia in this issue of used nuclear fuel.
