The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Ukraine’s key strategic partner in the implementation of large-scale infrastructure projects, will open its representative office in Ukraine by the end of the year.

Ukraine’s Vice Prime Minister – Minister for Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Hennadiy Zubko stated this following a meeting with JICA President Shinichi Kitaoka and Japan’s Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Ukraine Shigeki Sumi, the ministry’s press service reports.

The meeting took place as part of the review of preparatory works on the reconstruction of Bortnychi Aeration Station.

“It is important for us to attract Japan's technologies and experience, the experience of strategic planning and project management in implementing large-scale infrastructure projects in Ukraine. The project for the reconstruction of Bortnychi Aeration Station, which we are implementing together with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is important for us. Today we’ve entered the final stage of our design and preparatory works, our task is to complete them in July 2017. As early as next year, after the tender documentation has been prepared by Japanese consultants, an international competition will be held to determine the general contractor. From November 2018, construction works are to begin on the site. Our task is to follow the schedule and carry out the entire preparatory work cycle on time,” Zubko stressed.
