State-owned mines reduced coal production by 14.2%

In January-December 2016, Ukrainian coal mining companies produced 40.9 million tonnes of coal, which is by 1.119 million tonnes, or 2.8% more compared with the same period in 2015. At the same time, state-owned mines saw a significant decrease in production, the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry’s press service reports. 

In particular, coal mining companies produced 32.5 million tonnes of steam coal, and 8.4 million tonnes of coking coal. Thus, production of steam coal grew by 1.083 tonnes, or 3.4%, and output of coking coal – by 36.6 thousand tonnes, or 0.4%.

At the same time, coal mining enterprises managed by the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry comparied with the previous year reduced production by 954.8 thousand tonnes, or 14.2%, to 5.8 million tonnes. In particular, output of steam coal decreased by 564.2 thousand tonnes, or 11.8%, and coking coal – by 390.5 thousand tonnes, or 20%.
