Commissioner Oettinger: Ukraine should sue Russia for stolen energy assets
KYIV, May 28 /Ukrinform/. The European Commission supports Ukraine's international legal efforts to return the energy assets that were misappropriated by Russia as a result of the annexation of Crimea, European Commissioner for Energy Guenther Oettinger said during the presentation of the European energy security strategy in Brussels on Wednesday.
"Energy assets in Crimea for today are stolen from Ukraine, and with these assignments international legal procedures should be implemented. We support Ukraine in this debate,"-Oettinger said.
He noted that this is long-term trials.
Speaking about the gas issue, the commissioner voiced confidence that Ukraine and Russia will find a solution that guarantees the security of supplies, by June 1.
At the same time, he noted that a fair price needs to be set for the Ukrainian side could pay the available bills for Russian gas.
As Ukrinform reported, Ukraine's Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk demands Russia's answer regarding the return of 2.2 billion cubic meters of gas, "that Russia stole through Chornomornaftogaz in Crimea”.
