Yanukovych: Ukraine should agree to certain provisions of Customs Union agreement
KYIV, December 6 /UKRINFORM/. Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said that Ukraine should currently agree to certain provisions of the Customs Union agreement.
He announced this at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Ashgabat (Turkmenistan) on Wednesday, a UKRINFORM correspondent said.
"As for our proposals, which we have been discussing for several years, we need to agree to certain provisions of the Customs Union agreement, the rules that exist in the Customs Union, and comply with them," Yanukovych said.
He said that the trade between the two countries now exceeds USD 60 billion.
"We understand that if we fail to find instruments of cooperation with the Customs Union, we could lose a lot, which is currently unacceptable for the Ukrainian economy," the head of state said.
Yanukovych also said that due to the fact that Russia now has the largest stock of opportunities and resources, the political issue is a minor issue in the context of cooperation with the Customs Union. "We understand that it is not a political issue, but a matter of survival," he said.
