The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has created a Space Policy Directorate to unify domestic and international capabilities for the development of Ukraine's military space sector.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, according to Ukrinform.

The establishment of the new directorate was announced by Kateryna Chernohorenko, Deputy Minister of Defense for Digitalization, during the Space for Ukraine Forum.

The new directorate will develop regulatory frameworks for military space activities, identify and adopt cutting-edge space technologies, serve as a single point of contact for cooperation with domestic and international stakeholders, including developers, scientists, entrepreneurs, international partners.

According to Chernohorenko, during the three years of full-scale invasion, Ukraine gained invaluable experience in the space sector thanks to its partners.

"Despite the challenges of war, we have not only maintained our space ambitions but are ready to realize them. For decades, Ukrainian scientists, engineers, and industrialists have been building a strong scientific foundation and developing advanced space technologies. On this base, we will create new capabilities to strengthen the Defense Forces," Chernohorenko emphasized.

During the forum, the Ministry presented a 10-year roadmap for space sector development.

Within the first two years, the Space Policy Directorate will conduct an audit of Ukraine's space infrastructure to identify critical needs and develop strategic documents that will define the sector's development trajectory.

Next phase will include the development of Ukrainian satellites, creation of space situational awareness systems, and integration of these technologies into defense systems.

The final stage provides for the formation of a comprehensive defense space segment, deployment of a satellite constellation to provide real-time analytics, and ntegration into global security projects.

As previously reported, European Commissioner Andrius Kubilius, during the presentation of the White Paper in Germany, confirmed that Ukraine would gain access to EU space programs.
