Ukraine’s Navy commander, Swedish Army chief discuss use of naval drones

The meeting took place as part of Claesson’s visit to Ukraine, which also included meetings with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, and other commanders.

Neizhpapa informed Claesson about the current security situation in the Black Sea region.

"The enemy's main goal remains unchanged – to deprive Ukraine of access to sea. To this end, Russia continues to attempt to disrupt navigation in our waters," Neizhpapa stressed.

According to the commander, Russian invaders are also focusing their efforts on aerial and maritime reconnaissance.

"The enemy does not stop air attacks on peaceful cities, residential areas, and critical infrastructure. Every day, the Russians launch missiles and drones, trying to conquer Ukraine through terror and destruction," the Navy commander emphasized.

Neizhpapa and Claesson also focused on the impact of naval drones on modern warfare.

According to Neizhpapa, the use of unmanned naval complexes has become a real technological breakthrough that has radically changed the tactics of maritime warfare. He emphasized that these technologies have opened up new opportunities for defense.

Claesson stressed that Sweden will continue to support Ukraine in its struggle for freedom and security. He noted the resilience and professionalism of the Ukrainian military and stressed the importance of strengthening maritime security in the Black Sea region.

Claesson said the Ukrainian experience in countering the enemy, in particular at sea, is valuable for improving allied defense capabilities.

Neizhpapa thanked the Swedish partners for the significant support that helps Ukraine repel aggression and strengthen maritime security. According to him, among other things, within the framework of the Maritime Capabilities Coalition, Sweden has donated boats of various classes, including the Combat Boat 90, Gruppbat, and anti-ship missile systems.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, in 2024, missile and naval unmanned systems units delivered dozens of successful strikes on about 50 military targets.
