EU to allocate EUR 31M to Ukraine for defense

The Council of the European Union has decided to allocate EUR 31 million to Ukraine to strengthen its defense capabilities under the newly established European Peace Facility.

According to Ukrinform, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba announced this on Twitter.

"Important news from Brussels: EU Council approved the decision to provide €31 mln for strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities within the newly established European Peace Facility. We highly appreciate this step which reaffirms the strategic Ukraine-EU relations," the tweet reads.

Kuleba noted that Ukrainian diplomats had been working hard and systematically to achieve this result and "we finally have a positive decision - thanks to a long and fruitful discussion of Ukrainian diplomats with EU institutions and its member states."

"The package will include material and technical assistance for the development and capacity building of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the spheres of medicine, engineering capabilities, demining activities, mobility and logistics, cybersecurity," he added.
