Currently, 405 Ukrainian citizens, including 44 servicepersons and 30 women, are being held captive in Russia and the occupied territories.

"The armed aggression of the Russian Federation and the temporary occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol and a large part of Donbas led to the violation of Ukraine's territorial integrity and encroached on its independence ... Unfortunately, the state cannot guarantee constitutional rights and freedoms in the occupied territories. Our compatriots are forced to survive under the laws of natural selection of the aggressor state which eradicates not only everything Ukrainian but also human dignity. Currently, 405 citizens of Ukraine, including 44 servicepersons and 30 women, are held in concentration camps and torture chambers in the Russian Federation and in the occupied territories," Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova said during a solemn sitting of the Parliament on the occasion of the Constitution Day on June 28, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to her, the occupier deprived the prisoners of the right to freedom, personal security, legal protection but "it cannot deprive our compatriots of freedom of thought and conviction of hope to return to Ukraine."

The Commissioner stressed that our common duty was to make the Constitution of Ukraine work for everyone in the country.
