Ukrainian, NATO land commanders set priorities for cooperation
Commander of the Ukrainian Land Forces, Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrsky said this at a joint press conference with NATO Allied Land Commander, Lieutenant General Roger Cloutier in Kyiv on March 10, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
Syrsky noted that a system of training military units and subunits of the Armed Forces of Ukraine had been created with the help of Alliance partners.
In this context, he informed that from 2015 to 2020, more than 19,000 servicemen had been trained with the help of officers of international training missions.
"In general, the areas of our cooperation are the further development of the system of training centers of the Armed Forces, primarily the Land Forces. This year we have ambitious plans for the development of the 235th joint training center for military units and subunits. There, with the help of our American partners, a simulation center is being created. In addition, we conduct two international exercises. We have planned to hold a series of exercises to train mechanized motorized infantry brigades. And the main goal is to improve the quality and intensity of military training," Syrsky said.
He added that these plans had been agreed between the Land Forces Command of the Armed Forces and the NATO Allied Land Command, in particular, during today's talks.
In turn, Lieutenant General Cloutier noted that since the signing of the cooperation agreement in 2018, the partnership between the Land Forces of the Armed Forces and NATO had significantly expanded. He recalled the training of mobile groups, training programs for the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for possible cooperation within NATO land units, and so on.
He also said that following talks this week, representatives of the Allied Land Command Headquarters would arrive in Kyiv in summer to outline a scheme for further cooperation.
