132 Ukrainian soldiers killed, more than 700 wounded in Donbas over past year

In 2019-2020, 132 Ukrainian servicemen and women were killed in Donbas, 716 more were wounded.

"In total, in 2019-2020, 101 servicemen and women were killed and 519 more were heavily wounded as a result of constant attacks of the illegal armed formations in the territory of Donetsk region; 31 servicemen and women were killed and 197 were heavily wounded – in Luhansk region," the Prosecutor General's Office reports.

As noted, the Prosecutor General's Office closely follows the progress of investigation and judicial inquiry into the deaths of servicemen and women as a result of attacks of the illegal armed formations of the so-called “Donetsk People’s Republic” and “Luhansk People’s Republic” in the Joint Forces Operation area.

In particular, the National Police investigators initiated pre-trial investigation into the criminal proceedings opened under Part 3 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code upon the “DPR” fighters’ attack on the industrial zone of the village of Avdiivka in Donetsk region on January 15, 2020, which resulted in killing the Ukrainian Armed Forces serviceman.

In addition, on January 16, 2020, Ukrainian serviceman was killed in the village of Novozvanivka in Luhansk region as a result of sniper firing from the direction of the occupied Kalynove. Criminal proceedings were initiated under Part 3 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

"In order to establish and prosecute the persons involved in the commission of these crimes, necessary investigative actions are being carried out," the Prosecutor General's Office added.
