Defense Ministry presents eleven areas of reform for 2020

"The [defense] reform was planned in the government program. It was published on October 1 and listed five areas that we had defined as priorities. Now we expand this list and show more detailed information, we show eleven areas," Ukrainian Defense Minister Andriy Zahorodniuk said at a briefing on Thursday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

According to the minister, these eleven areas are: defense strategy; security of the Black Sea region; introduction of NATO standards; weapons and innovative technologies; infrastructure development; professionalization and social protection; provision with housing; defense procurement reform; electronic document workflow; territorial defense system; corruption prevention, detection and counteraction.

Commenting to Ukrinform on the level of readiness of each area, Zahorodniuk said: "Some are underway, some, such as the territorial defense system, are at the initial stage. But most of them already have finalized roadmaps which will be presented in the coming weeks. We have certain progress in each of the areas made over the past three months of work."

The minister also noted that the reform of the procurement system, the revision of the state defense order with an emphasis on support for state-run producer would be considered as a priority.
