Ukrspecexport, part of the Ukroboronprom State Concern, and Turkey's Baykar Defense, one of the leading drones manufacturers, have set up a joint venture in the sphere of precision weapons and aerospace technologies, according to a report posted on the website of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council (NSDC).

"The main objective of the joint venture is to combine the capabilities of both countries' defense systems to mass-produce new models of modern weapons for their own armies. This will help move away from classic arms purchase contracts to a whole new level of cooperation – the synergy of defense technologies and the combination of advanced developments of Turkey and Ukraine," the report reads.

It notes that one of the first projects of the joint venture will be the development of a new generation unmanned aerial vehicle. This drone will be able to conduct detailed reconnaissance from high altitudes, spend hours in the air, develop considerable cruising speed and launch strikes from a wide range of high-precision weapons.

"Such capabilities of the new drone will be made possible due to the widespread use of composite materials, digital technologies, and Ukrainian-made engines capable of operating reliably in extreme conditions. In addition, they will provide a high cargo capacity of the UAV that will carry a large number of weapons, even compared to conventional fighter aircraft. Ukraine and Turkey have significant experience of effective cooperation in the field of defense technologies," the NSDC press service said.

Turkish defense companies cooperate with Ukraine in the field of digital communications systems, drones, high-precision aviation weapons, etc. Ukroboronprom's companies are implementing joint projects on the creation of military transport aircraft, active defense systems for armored vehicles and radar systems.

"In recent years, stable mutually beneficial work has been established to bring together the strengths of our defense systems. Establishing a joint venture is another important step that will enhance our countries' defense capability," the NSDC said.
