Verkhovna Rada Chairman Andriy Parubiy thanked U.S. Chargé d'Affaires a.i. in Ukraine William Taylor for the US assistance provided to the Ukrainian army and navy.

"First of all, I would like to thank for the strategic assistance your country has been providing to Ukraine in recent years. If we hadn’t received continued and strong US support both in international and bilateral dimensions, it would have been very difficult for us to restrain Russian aggression. And the latest decision of the U.S. House of Representatives on the allocation of $700 million to Ukraine was another confirmation of our strategic partnership. It is very important that the U.S. Department of Defense inter alia has already allocated $250 million for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and for the Ukrainian Navy. This will allow us to significantly strengthen the Ukrainian security sector, but this is also an important symbolic act,” the chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament said, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

Parubiy welcomed Taylor to Ukraine and said he was pleased to see Mr Taylor as the representative of the United States.

In turn, the American diplomat said he was glad to be in Ukraine.

“I was very pleased to see once again the firm commitment of the entire Administration and the Congress to the strong support for Ukraine, which, among other things, is manifested in the allocation of $700 million you mentioned and, in particular, $250 million for defense procurement. The Congress is proud to provide Ukraine with even larger support, to support Ukraine more than other agencies in Washington,” said the U.S. Chargé d'Affaires a.i. in Ukraine.
