Capture of Ukrainian soldiers in Donbas: no high treason established

“President Volodymyr Zelensky heard the report on the circumstances of capture of 8 servicemen of the armored infantry battalion of the 53rd separate mechanized brigade. The internal investigation into this incident carried out at the order of the JFO commander did not establish the facts of treason,” the press service of the Head of State reports.

At the same time, managerial and disciplinary conclusions will be made concerning the command of the battalion and the 53rd separate mechanized brigade due to significant errors in the organization of combat training and internal service.

In addition, the investigation established that the personnel of the border squad at the Novotroitske, Berezove-1 and Berezove-2 checkpoints violated the procedure of control over the collision line passage.

Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that everything necessary would be done to return captive warriors.

“We will act as fast and efficient as possible to free our men,” the Head of State emphasized.

As reported, on May 22, eight servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine headed off course when driving in a lorry in the area of Novotroitske village, Donetsk region, and were taken captive by invaders. The military prosecutor's office introduced corresponding data in a unified state register of pre-trial investigations and the investigative actions are being conducted.
