The Ukrainian president's authorized representative for the peaceful settlement of the situation in Donbas, Ukraine's representative in the humanitarian subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG), Iryna Gerashchenko, stated this in a report released on Thursday.
"According to the Joint Center for Coordination of Search, Release of Captives, Hostages and Location of Missing Persons in the area of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (now the Joint Forces Operation) at the Security Service of Ukraine, 258 people are considered missing in Donbas," the report says.
According to Gerashchenko, since 2015 the Ukrainian side has insisted on the introduction of a trilateral search mechanism for missing persons with the participation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (Ukraine-Russia-ICRC), however, the Russian Federation refuses this proposal.
As reported, First Vice Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine Iryna Gerashchenko informed on May 16 that she had written a statement as the presidential commissioner for the peaceful settlement of the situation in Donbas and a representative of Ukraine in the humanitarian subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group with a request to dismiss her from these positions.
