Two NATO ships enter Black Sea

Two ships of the Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group Two - the German Navy's Werra flagship and the Turkish Navy's Akcakoca minesweeper – entered the Black Sea on February 19, Turkish online newspaper Gunes has reported.

According to the German Defense Ministry, during a voyage that was planned long time ago, the Werra will visit the Bulgarian ports of Burgas and Varna.

Germany took charge of the Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group Two (SNMCMG2) in January 2019 on a rotational basis. The group is headed by German Navy Commander Martin Schwarz. The group also includes Romanian and Bulgarian minesweepers.

The FGS Werra fulfills the task of counducting repairs, supplying weapons, fuel, food, ammunition, equipment and, if necessary, electrical energy for rocket ships, torpedo boats, and minesweepers.

The Werra is capable of carrying 450 tonnes of diesel fuel, 11 tonnes of engine oils, 27 tonnes of food, 150 tonnes of fresh water, 130 tonnes of ammunition and equipment.
