The Armed Forces of Ukraine will adopt for service about 20 new types of weapons in 2019.

"The state defense order is very optimistic as it provides for the supply of at least 20 types of weapons that were not previously used by the Armed Forces," Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak said during a visit to the Kharkiv defense enterprises, which are part of the Ukroboronprom corporation, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

When asked about the deepening of defense cooperation with the international partners, the minister said: "We have significantly boosted cooperation with our partners. Last month I was in Turkey and Israel. We discussed the new contracts on the delivery of equipment and armament. We have close cooperation with our US partners and the size of financial assistance remains big enough."

Poltorak also informed that the Ministry of Defense made a list of equipment and weapons required by the Ukrainian army and handed it over to the international partners for approving a decision on the assistance to Ukraine. In addition, the minister confirmed that the active work is currently underway to strengthen Ukraine's positions at sea.

"The fact that we make efforts to enhance our capabilities at sea is true. We are doing our best to ensure our presence in the Sea of Azov and the safety of our ports," the minister said.
