"The contribution of women and men in the national defense is absolutely of equal worth," President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said at the Second Ukrainian Women's Congress, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
Currently, more than 30,000 women serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, more than 3,000 of whom are officers, the Head of State noted. He added that this year Ukraine for the first time appointed a female military general, and on the whole, 70 female colonels serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The President reminded that in October he had signed a law on equal conditions and opportunities for women and men in the army and instructed the Defense Ministry of and the General Staff to “finally start to implement” the provisions of this law.
