This was reported by the press service of Donetsk Regional Military Civil Administration.
"Avdiivka marks the Day of Liberation from Russian-backed militants. On July 30, four years ago, the servicemen of the 2nd Battalion-Tactical Group of the 93rd Special Guard Mechanized Brigade together with the soldiers of the Pravy Sektor liberated the town of Avdiivka, Donetsk region, which was held by military units under the control of the Russian Federation from April 2014," the statement reads.
Avdiivka is part of the Donetsk-Makiivka agglomeration, and the positions around it allow controlling the northern outskirts of Donetsk and Yasynuvata, the southern outskirts of Horlivka, as well as the highway M04 between Donetsk and Horlivka.
