U.S. to provide Ukrainian army with $100 million assistance – Poltorak

Defense Minister of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak said this on the air of the Freedom of Speech TV program on ICTV channel on July 16, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"After the adoption of the law on national security and after the analysis of the reform of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the U.S. Secretary of Defense stressed that in the near future the United States would help strengthen the defense capability of the Ukrainian army, supply arms and equipment worth USD 100 million," Poltorak said, commenting on the meetings of the NATO Summit in Brussels.

The minister said that at the NATO Summit all foreign colleagues confirmed "the success of reforms in the Armed Forces of Ukraine." At the same time, the parties discussed changes in cooperation - apart from providing consultative assistance and material and technical assistance, "they talked about concrete assistance."

Poltorak also said that "it was very pleasant to know that the majority of my colleagues said that NATO is ready to consider not only assistance but also the issue of accelerating Ukraine's accession to the Alliance."
