The leadership of the Russian Federation is using aggression against Ukraine as a battering ram against Europe, provoking a split in the unity of the EU countries.

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov said this during a meeting with Foreign Minister of the Republic of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius, the NSDC’s press service reported.

"Putin is using aggression against Ukraine as a ram against Europe, provoking a split in the unity of the EU countries," Turchynov said.

According to him, Russian aggression is an attempt to destroy the foundations of the world security architecture that formed after the Second World War.

During the meeting, the interlocutors discussed the aggravation of the situation in eastern Ukraine in May. "The excessive concentration of the Russian troops has been recorded on the Ukrainian-Russian border," Turchynov said, adding that the Kerch bridge allowed the Russian Federation to quickly deploy its armed forces in the south.

They also discussed the issue of tightening sanctions against Russia.

According to Linkevičius, Lithuania "supported and will support Ukraine on the way to European integration."
