President: 70 Ukrainian border guards killed by Russian invaders

Seventy Ukrainian border guards have been killed as a result of the Russian aggression against Ukraine.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said this on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of establishment of the border guard service of Ukraine, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Seventy courageous Ukrainian border guards, the faithful sons of Ukraine, have been killed in fierce battles with the Russian invaders," the Head of State said.

The President noted that 825 border guards had been awarded state decorations for their courage and heroism, one of them had been awarded the Star of Hero of Ukraine.

The State Border Guard Service has many functions and tasks, the main of which is to participate in defending the eastern borders of Ukraine from the Russian aggression, Poroshenko stressed.
