Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov has congratulated the National Guard of Ukraine on the professional holiday.

This was reported by the press office of the NSDC.

"Four years ago, a violent and powerful enemy attacked Ukraine. The National Guard was created to respond quickly and adequately to the challenges faced by the state. Four years ago, the guards were among the first to fight the enemy in the east of our state. There was no equipment, no heavy weapons, but there were courage and heroism, which allowed stopping the aggressor and starting the liberation of Ukraine. May the glory of those national guards, who gave their lives for freedom and independence of Ukraine, for our free European future, live forever," Turchynov said.

The National Guard today is a powerful military unit with law enforcement functions, capable of reliably protecting the country from external and internal enemies, to obstruct Russia's revanchist plans for the revival of the totalitarian empire, the NSDC secretary said.

"I wish you, true knights and heroes of Ukraine, that every day of your service was a confirmation of the slogan: Where the National Guard is, there is always the victory! May God save you and your families! Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the Heroes," the NSDC secretary said in his congratulation.
