A peace building process in Donbas by peacekeeping units should meet all requirements of international norms and laws; in particular, the Russian Federation cannot participate in the peacekeeping mission.

Defense Minister of Ukraine General of the Army of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak said this in an interview with media representatives, according to the website of the Defense Ministry.

"The peacekeeping mission in Donbas should meet all requirements of international norms and laws. In order to avoid a frozen conflict in the region, it is necessary to meet several requirements," Poltorak said.

“The peacekeeping operation should be deployed within the whole occupied territory, including at the part of Russia-Ukraine state border that is not controlled by the government,” he underlined.

According to the minister, Russia should withdraw both its formed terrorist groups and regular troops from the region; as well Russia’s participation in the peacekeeping mission is also unacceptable.

Meanwhile, Stepan Poltorak underscore the need to develop and reform the Ukrainian army to defend and restore its territorial integrity.
