The Washington Post calls for next step in U.S. military support for Ukraine

Ukrinform
U.S. newspaper The Washington Post, on the initiative of the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States, has published on its pages a large poster calling for the "next step" in military support for Ukraine, a country that preserves the security of the whole of Europe.

The publication appeared in a printed version in more than half a million copies and was also sent by e-mail to 775,000 recipients, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Ukraine has managed to hold the line against Russian aggression in the eastern region of Donbas, but the cost has been high: more than 10,000 Ukrainian warriors have been killed and wounded. The violence continues. This threat to the people of Ukraine and to the security of Europe must end," reads the illustrated text.

It notes that Ukraine spends 5.6% of its GDP on defense and security. Eight Ukrainian battalions reached interoperability with NATO standards. The U.S. provided AN TPQ counter-battery radars, and U.S. instructors trained more than 4,000 Ukrainian servicemen - and this helped save many lives in Ukraine.

"U.S. military assistance has been vital to Ukraine's defense so far, and Ukraine is ready for the next step," the report says.

Ukraine's Ambassador to the United States Valeriy Chaly said in a comment to Ukrinform on this subject that the released report was "absolutely transparent." It dwells on the achievements of the Ukrainian army, the real benefit of U.S. assistance and the level of bilateral cooperation between America and Ukraine in the defense sector.

"We are waiting for the next step, and I very much hope that such a step will be made," Chaly said.

He also noted that such publications, of course, had their own influence.

"I saw a newspaper opened on this page in some very important offices in the United States. This means that they have definitely paid attention to it," Chaly said.
