The decision of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), which was enacted by President Petro Poroshenko on July 11, foresees the allocation of UAH 600 million to the Defense Ministry for modern weapons and military equipment.

In particular, UAH 300 million will be spent on research and development work on the designing of the Vilkha newest missile system, and another UAH 300 million will be allocated for the supply of Oplot tanks. This is stated in the NSDC decision of July 10 on urgent measures to finance the needs of the national security and defense of Ukraine in 2017, which was made public on the website of the head of state.

According to the document, the NSDC instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to table in the Verkhovna Rada proposals for the draft law introducing amendments to the law on Ukraine's state budget for 2017 (No. 6600 of June 21, 2017), which is being prepared for second reading.

In particular, the proposals concern additional budget allocations for the Ukrainian Defense Ministry. It is proposed to allocate an additional UAH 4 billion to the ministry from the special fund of the state budget (confiscated funds and proceeds from the sale of property confiscated by a court ruling for committing corruption and corruption-related offenses).

Of this amount, UAH 1 billion is to be used for the purchase of weapons and military equipment, UAH 1.4 billion for the purchase and production of ammunition, and UAH 1 billion for the construction of housing for servicemen.
