President Poroshenko: About 500 Ukrainian military personnel take part in peacekeeping missions around the world
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko stated this in his congratulations to service people and veterans of the Armed Forces, other military formations and law enforcement bodies of Ukraine – participants of international peacekeeping operations on the occasion of the International Day of UN Peacekeepers.
"About 500 military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine currently take part in nine peacekeeping operations in seven world countries, showing the international community traditionally high professional and moral qualities, competence, reliability and courage," the congratulatory message reads.
Since Ukraine gained independence, more than 42,000 military personnel of the Armed Forces, other military formations and law enforcement bodies of Ukraine have participated in the international peacekeeping operations under the auspices of the UN, OSCE and the European Union.
In 2017, Ukraine marks 25 years since the beginning of active participation in the international peacekeeping operations.
"Impeccable fulfillment of tasks, courage and high professionalism of Ukrainian peacekeepers has ensured recognition of Ukraine as an influential subject of European and world security systems and created favorable conditions for shaping a positive image of our state in the world," the President noted.
