Government amends procedure for granting ATO combatant status

Ukrinform
The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a draft resolution on amending the procedure for granting the status of combatants participating in the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) or ensuring its conduct.

A relevant decision was taken at a government meeting on Thursday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"This status is to be granted, first of all, if a person was enlisted to carry out service in ATO for a period of at least 30 days, including the days spent in the area of anti-terrorist operation conduct,” Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak said.

He noted that the status should be granted to persons who participated in military operations and contact battles, and those who participated in intelligence activities.

In addition, it is proposed to provide the status to those soldiers who were wounded or received sever injuries - regardless of the number of days spent in the ATO.
