Car explosion in Odesa classified as terrorist act – SSU

The explosion of a car in Odesa’s Kyivskyi district in the morning of February 6 has been classified as a terrorist act by the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU).

According to Ukrinform, this was reported on Telegram by the SSU’s Odesa regional office.

“The SSU has classified the car explosion in the Kyivskyi district of Odesa as a terrorist act and has already opened the relevant criminal proceedings. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted under Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (terrorist act),” the statement said.

According to preliminary investigative data, the explosion occurred at around 05:00 today near a residential building on Akademika Koroliova Street. The driver of the car was killed.

The Security Service of Ukraine, together with the National Police, is working to establish all the circumstances of the incident and identify those involved.

According to the publication Dumskaya, the deceased was a border guard canine handler.
