In Mykolaiv, agents of Russia’s FSB (Federal Security Service) were detained while preparing a double terrorist attack near the regional Territorial Recruitment Center (TRC).

This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) office in Mykolaiv region on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.

“The SSU counterintelligence officers have prevented new terrorist attacks in southern Ukraine. As a result of a special operation, two FSB agents were detained while planning a double explosion in Mykolaiv,” the statement reads.

According to the investigation, the enemy’s plan was to detonate an improvised explosive device (IED) near the administrative building of the regional TRC, and then, after emergency services arrived, trigger a second explosion nearby.

This tactic was designed to cause maximum casualties and destabilize the situation in this frontline region.

The plot involved two FSB agents who operated separately but were managed by the same Russian handler.

One of the suspects is a 38-year-old resident of Kirovohrad region who drew the attention of the occupiers after posting anti-Ukrainian comments on social media. After being recruited, he was tasked with assembling the IEDs and hiding them in pre-arranged caches.

The Russian handler then passed the locations of those caches to the individual assigned to carry out the attack — an 18-year-old resident of Kyiv region, who had been lured by the FSB through promises of “easy money” on Telegram channels.

Following the handler’s instructions, the young man retrieved two IEDs from hiding places in Kherson and Mykolaiv. One was planted in a trash bin near the Mykolaiv TRC, and the second placed nearby.

At that moment, the SSU officers caught him in the act, successfully thwarting the planned attack.

The agent was also found to be in possession of a phone, which he had intended to set up at the TRC site to livestream the explosion for the occupiers.

The SSU investigators have charged the suspect under Part 2 of Article 15 and Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (attempted terrorist act).

The second agent was detained at his place of residence and charged under Part 2 of Article 111 (high treason committed under martial law).

Both suspects are in custody without the right to bail. They face 12 years to life imprisonment, with confiscation of property.

As previously reported, a Mykolaiv man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for spying on Ukrainian military airfields on behalf of the FSB.
