Handziuk murder case: Manher, Levin sentenced to 10 years in prison

The court sentenced Vladyslav Manher, former chairman of the Kherson Regional Council, and Oleksiy Levin, ex-aide to a member of the Kherson Regional Council, to ten years in prison for organizing an attack on civil society activist Kateryna Handziuk.

Judge Yulia Ivanina announced the relevant judgment on Monday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

On July 31, 2018, sulfuric acid was poured on Kateryna Handziuk, civil society activist, acting manager of affairs at Kherson City Council's executive committee, at the entrance of her house in Kherson city. The woman had burns to 40% of her body. She underwent several surgeries but died on November 4 of the same year.

The direct perpetrators of the attempted murder were sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 3 to 6.5 years.

Vladyslav Manher, former chairman of the Kherson Regional Council, and Oleksiy Levin, ex-aide to a member of the Kherson Regional Council, were suspected of organizing the attempted murder and were held in custody.
