Belgium will support Ukraine for as long as it takes - PM

He said this after talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on Saturday, November 26, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"Some things must be repeated. We have been saying this since the beginning of this war, but it is important to repeat that we condemn Russian aggression against your country and your population. Belgium supports the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine. Our support is extremely firm and unwavering," De Croo said.

According to him, Belgium sees that the Ukrainian army is putting pressure on the Russians on the battlefield and forcing them to retreat, and Russia, in turn, is destroying the Ukrainian population and infrastructure.

"That is why we have to support you today and show the Ukrainian people that we are here, we are supporting Ukraine in these difficult times. This could be a difficult winter. We are supplying many things - generators, help to your schools and hospitals. We also hope that we add hope and resilience in these difficult times," he said.

De Croo noted that at the meeting with President Zelensky, he discussed many issues, including military assistance.

"Belgium was one of the first countries to provide military aid to Ukraine. We will continue to do so - fuel, machine guns, self-propelled guns, etc.," De Croo said.

He noted that Belgium had joined Ukraine's grain initiative because it considers it important to prevent food problems in some African countries.

"In addition, it supports your economy as it supports Ukraine in this very difficult period. [...] We will continue to provide support for as long as it takes," he said.

On November 26, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held talks with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, who arrived on a visit to Ukraine.
