The Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol investigates 270 proceedings over 400 incidents of enforced disappearance, imprisonment, abduction and torture on the territory of the Crimean Peninsula since its occupation.

"The Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol provides procedural guidance in 270 criminal proceedings over more than 400 violations of the right to life and health, enforced disappearance, imprisonment, abduction, torture and inhuman treatment on the Crimean Peninsula since its occupation," the press service of the Prosecutor's Office informs.

As noted, the pre-trial investigation established the involvement of representatives of the occupying power and its occupation administrations in the commission of crimes in the vast majority of criminal proceedings.

Russia started the armed aggression against Ukraine on February 20, 2014 by seizing part of Ukraine's territory - the Crimean Peninsula.

On March 16, 2014, the so-called "referendum on the status of Crimea" was held on the territory of Crimea and Sevastopol. In two days, on March 18, 2014, the so-called agreement on the accession of the Republic of Crimea to the Russian Federation was signed at the Kremlin.

Most UN member states and other international organizations declared the Crimean referendum falsified by the occupiers illegitimate.
