Number of cybercrime offences in Ukraine has increased 2.5-fold over the past five years.

“In general, cybercrime in the world grows by 30-40 percent a year. In Ukraine, the number of cybercrime offences has increased 2.5-fold over the past five years,” Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov said during a video conference on the country’s digital transformation, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to him, the cyber police record the growth of such offences as interference in the work of information systems and their intentional damage; illegal collection, storage and use, destruction and dissemination of personal data and information with limited access; creation of weapons and drugs sales channels; illegal financial transactions; theft and fraud on the Internet; spam and virus programs, and others.

Cyber police effectively counteract modern threats, but cyberspace is constantly evolving and new threats appear within it, the minister noted.

"That is why today we are moving to a new level in the fight against cybercrime. In cooperation with IT business, the scientific community, and international partners, the process of transformation of the Cyberpolice Department has begun. According to the cyberpolice development program, we plan to integrate it into the global ecosystem of cybercrime prevention by 2025. In this sense, cooperation, assistance, coordination of actions by international partners is a priority for us as it is impossible to independently overcome the cyberspace challenges in the digitalized world," Avakov said.
