Over 2,700 persons convicted of corruption over past two years in Ukraine

Over the past two years, the law enforcement officers arrested 5,471 persons for corruption.

"The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine in cooperation with the Security Service of Ukraine, the National Police, the State Investigation Bureau and the State Fiscal Service detained 5,471 individuals on corruption charges over the past two years. 2,765 people are already convicted, the sentences have taken effect," Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuri Lutsenko said at a meeting of the committee on legislative support for the activity of the law enforcement bodies, an Ukrinform correspondent reports

He also noted that according to the court rulings on confiscation, "UAH 44 billion was returned for the past two years."

"In terms of the state agencies, 612 officers of the National Police, 224 employees of the state administrations, 177 employees of the State Customs Service, 159 employees of the State Fiscal Service, 158 employees of the Armed Forces, 126 border guards, 100 employees of the State Penitentiary Service, 61 employees of the prosecutor's offices, 23 employees of the Security Service of Ukraine were held liable for corruption over the past year," Lutsenko added.
