The Dutch parliament has approved a treaty on MH17 trial - sentences in the case on the downing of flight MH17 over Donbas could be executed in Ukraine.

The court will be able to try suspects through video link, according to Deutsche Welle.

"Dutch lawmakers on Tuesday, June 12, approved a treaty signed between the Netherlands and Ukraine to ease the possible prosecution of those responsible for downing the Malaysian Boeing, including trying suspects through video link. The approved treaty stipulates that the prosecution of suspects will take place in a Dutch court, most likely in The Hague," the report says.

It notes that jail sentences would be served in Ukraine if convicted suspects cannot be extradited to the Netherlands. The approval of the treaty "is an important step towards finding the truth and putting the suspects on trial, thereby satisfying victim's relatives," Dutch Foreign Minister Stef Blok said.

Earlier, on June 6, the Dutch government said it saw no responsibility of the Ukrainian authorities for the downing of flight MH17 over Donbas in 2014.

As reported, the Boeing-777 passenger airplane owned by Malaysia Airlines, en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, was shot down by Russian-backed militants in Donbas in July 2014. There were 283 passengers and 15 crewmembers on board the plane, and all of them died.
