Ex-chief of Ukraine’s investment agency Kaskiv extradited from Panama

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuri Lutsenko posted this on his Facebook page.

"On the night of November 1, former chief of the State Agency for Investment and National Projects Vladyslav Kaskiv was extradited from Panama to Ukraine by joint efforts of the Prosecutor General's Office and the Security Service of Ukraine. He is suspected of embezzlement of public funds worth about UAH 7.5 million," Lutsenko wrote.

Kaskiv has been delivered to the main investigation department of the Prosecutor General's Office.

Lutsenko stressed this is the first case of extradition of an ex-official to Ukraine.

As reported, Kaskiv was detained in Panama in September 2016. In particular, the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine stated that Kaskiv, who had been put on Interpol wanted list, was detained on the border with Costa Rica after he had been denied entry to the country on August 17, 2016. Subsequently it became known that Kaskiv was released on bail of USD 600,000 and, being under the house arrest, asked for political asylum in Panama. However, Kaskiv was denied a political refugee status.
