121 corrupt officials imprisoned in Ukraine in six months

A total of 121 people have been imprisoned for corruption crimes in Ukraine in the first half of 2017, whereas 33 have been sentenced to restraint of liberty and 265 have received a fine. 

This is stated in the statistics of the Supreme Court of Ukraine, which was announced at a press conference on Monday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to the materials, in the first half of the year the courts received 4,444 criminal cases on corruption crimes and cases on administrative offenses related to corruption.

The courts considered 2,063 cases over this period. As a result, 1,373 people were brought to justice, including 469 for committing corruption offenses and 903 for administrative offenses related to corruption.

As a result, the Ukrainian courts convicted 58 employees of the National Police and the Interior Ministry, 44 servicemen, 29 employees of the State Tax Administration, a Security Service officer, 19 heads of villages and towns, as well as 32 local government officials.
