Kyiv police spokeswoman Oksana Blyschik wrote on Facebook.
"Special police unit officers noticed two suspicious men in the city district. When policemen decided to check their IDs, one of the men opened fire and attempted to run away. The gunfire left two police officers injured, but the officers were able to detain another man" a statement said.
The spokesperson noted the police called for backup, and began the search for the armed shooter.
"When he started shooting again, one of the law enforcement officers fired his gun and injured an attacker’s thigh. Then the man threatened to commit suicide, but following the process of negotiating the police disarmed and detained him," Blyschik said.
