“Residents of Moscow and the Moscow region are complaining about ‘oil rain’ following Thursday's drone attack,” the report states.

In addition, a massive fire broke out at the Sadovod Market in Moscow following a drone attack. Footage from the scene shows large plumes of smoke rising above the market buildings.

The market administration has not officially announced a suspension of operations, but visitors are reporting on social media that the entrance is closed.

As previously reported, on the morning of Thursday, June 18, Moscow and the Moscow region came under attack by drones, and a fire broke out at an oil refinery in the Kapotnia district, according to the BBC Russian Service.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin claimed that 137 drones flying toward Moscow had allegedly been destroyed. He acknowledged that several drones reached the local oil refinery and reported that UAV debris had fallen on the grounds of the Sadovod shopping center.

Later on Thursday, Sobyanin stated that the number of drones allegedly shot down while flying toward Moscow had risen to 194, according to Astra.

According to Astra’s OSINT analysis, at least five separate fires broke out at the affected oil refinery in the Russian capital.

There are also reports of damage to a residential high-rise building in Moscow.

In the city of Gukovo in the Rostov Region of the Russian Federation, a drone attack caused a fire at an oil depot, according to the results of Astra’s OSINT analysis.

The region’s governor, Yuriy Slyusar, reported Thursday morning that the attack had caused “two fires at commercial facilities” in the city and damaged a diesel locomotive. He also reported one fatality and two injuries.

Google satellite images taken in 2026 show that the oil depot in Gukovo has eight tanks that can be used to store petroleum products, and railroad tracks run through the facility’s grounds.

In addition, a fire broke out near the town of Shebekino in the Belgorod region, likely at a warehouse containing flammable or combustible materials, according to an OSINT analysis by Astra.

On the evening of June 17, the monitoring channel “Shepit Shebekino” published photos and videos from eyewitnesses showing an intense fire. A few minutes before the publication, a drone was reported to have flown over the area of the fire.

An Astra analyst analyzed the video and photos and determined that the fire broke out in an industrial zone on the border between the villages of Rzhevka and Voznesenka, approximately 7.5 km from Shebekino. The gas station closest to the fire is located just outside the boundaries of the identified area.

Judging by the photos and videos, the fire occurred in a warehouse containing flammable or combustible materials, the post states.

Astra also speculates that the warehouses were used to store military goods.

Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to have “intercepted and destroyed” 555 drones over 17 Russian regions, the temporarily occupied Crimea, and the waters of the Sea of Azov on the night of June 17–18.

It is noted that today’s attack on Moscow was the largest in the past two years.

Later on Thursday, it became known that all four of Moscow’s airports—Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo, and Ramenskoye—were closed to arrivals and departures.

Rosaviatsiya stated that this was the third such flight restriction over the past night and morning, implemented to ensure safety due to the threat of drone attacks.

At Sheremetyevo Airport, located north of Moscow, passengers and airport staff were evacuated from the terminals and from aircraft due to the threat of an attack. People were taken to shelters, including underground parking garages, airport staff reported. Some flights were canceled, and some planes were diverted to alternate airports.

The mayor of Moscow also stated that another 14 drones were allegedly shot down as they approached the Russian capital after 9:00 a.m. on Thursday. He did not specify where these drones were allegedly destroyed or whether any damage resulting from the attack had been reported. Thus, the number of drones allegedly shot down over Moscow has exceeded 190.
