Ukraine’s air defenses down 89 out of 108 Russian drones overnight
According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Telegram.
Starting from 18:00 on May 5, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with two Iskander-M ballistic missiles launched from Russia’s Rostov region, one Kh-31 guided air missile launched from the airspace over Russia’s Kursk region, and 108 strike UAVs of the Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas types, as well as Parodia decoy drones, launched from directions including Bryansk, Kursk, Millerovo (Russia), as well as temporarily occupied Donetsk and Hvardiiske in Crimea.
The aerial assault was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
As of 08:00 on May 6, preliminary data indicate that air defenses shot down or suppressed 89 drones in northern and eastern Ukraine.
There were recorded impacts of two ballistic missiles, one guided air missile, and nine strike UAVs at eight locations, as well as debris from downed drones at one location.
The attack is ongoing, with several enemy drones still in the airspace.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, 12 people were killed and 43 injured in Zaporizhzhia as a result of Russian GAB bombs and drone strikes on May 5.
