Zelensky dismisses ‘buffer zone’ threat in Vinnytsia region
The head of state said this while speaking with journalists, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
“The Russians want to create a buffer zone along the entire border – not only theirs, but also Belarus’s. That includes the Chernihiv and Sumy regions as well. There is nothing new here. As for Transnistria, honestly, I do not see a threat there today,” Zelensky said.
He noted that the primary threat exists where Russian troops are concentrated.
“Today we see troop concentrations in other directions – in the south, in the Zaporizhzhia direction. Their main objective remains unchanged: the Pokrovsk direction. It is an important city for them, and they have long tried to capture it. It is also important for us, as it is where our defensive line and positions are located,” the President added.
As previously reported, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Pavlo Palisa said that Russia plans to create a buffer zone in the Vinnytsia region from the side of the unrecognized Transnistria, but currently lacks the forces to implement such plans.
