Ukraine to finalize security guarantees document in coming days, says Zelensky
According to a Ukrinform correspondent, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this during a conversation with journalists, commenting on his discussion with the American team.
"It was an important conversation, and it took place in the right spirit—we spoke as partners. Firstly, everyone understands that complex issues—those concerning territories—can only be resolved by the leaders of the three countries. Secondly, in any case, Ukraine must have a clear understanding of the security guarantees. Everything must be clearly written out so that Ukrainians can understand it. This is very important. We don’t know if we will get what we agreed upon, but the agreement is this: In the coming days, Ukraine will incorporate into the draft document our responses to the questions we have regarding these security guarantees,” he said.
Zelensky noted that there must be a clear answer on how the U.S. will respond to new Russian aggression. The president noted that Ukraine maintains an 800,000-strong army, while also raising the question of who will finance it and how, beyond the Ukrainian budget.
The president added that, in the context of security guarantees, the issue of supplying Ukraine with anti-ballistic missile systems—which are not available in Europe but are present in the Middle East—will also be considered. According to him, Ukraine will soon present its position on this matter, after which the United States will be able to make adjustments.
As reported by Ukrinform, President Volodymyr Zelensky’s conversation with the American party took place on April 1.
In January 2026, a document on security guarantees between Ukraine and the U.S. was drafted.
